Mini Zines

Hey everyone! I can’t believe how long it’s been since I last posted anything, but I’ve been super busy with schoolwork lately. I just began my first year of college a few weeks ago, and the transition to life in a dorm has been interesting, to say the least. I’m trying to get back into the swing of things.

Anyway, I just wanted to share some pictures of a couple of zines I made a week or two ago. I’m in the middle of creating a mini comic but the going has been slow on that, so I made these little guys in between working on that.

I got really excited when I found out that you could make a zine with just one piece of paper, without staples, so I tried it myself with some paper, a pen, and a copy machine. It was really fun making a lot of little copies and being able to hold the finished product in my hands.

I’m thinking of maybe coloring the second zine to see how it looks, since the drawings are pretty simple. Overall, though, I’m not really sure what to do with the zines. Maybe I’ll stick them in random places for people to find. 🙂

Hi Tori J. It’s good to hear from you. I’ve been neglecting my blog as well. Lots of stuff comes up in real life and you can’t always get to everything. I think the idea of writing mini zines is great. It’s not a big project looming over you like your book was, especially with just starting college and all the stress that brings. The mini zines lets you do what you love and have more instant gratification from it.
BTW I bought a copy of Solstice and I really enjoyed it. Following your process made me feel like I was part of it.

I find your work thought provoking and intriguing. I love your artwork. Maybe your next one will be in color. I would like to write a post about Solstice and add a link to your blog if you are ok with that. I don’t know when it will happen because I’ve been tied up reviewing some books from Net Galley. I may have to start another site for regular books.

Good luck in school, and remember you can’t put partying and Snapchatting on your resume. LOL.

Hi! It’s nice to hear from you too! I totally agree, mini zines seem like the perfect project to do during a busy time. I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed reading Solstice! I would be so flattered if you’d write about it, but don’t feel obligated to right now, especially if you are very busy. I hope you’re doing well. Thank you so much for the kind words!

Glad to see you posted you zines (even though I’m a little late to the party seeing them)! They look great, there’s something extremely captivating about the swirls you include in your black areas in “Among the Stars”. I can definitely recommend hiding them places where people may find them too. I actually recieved a message back the other day from someone who randomly found one of mine. It was such a surprise, and after I did a little digging around for their username online, it turned out they were a local artist too!

Thanks so much for the message! It’s also so cool that a local artist found your zine. You never know who might pick it up one day. I’m definitely going to take a trip to the school copier soon!

These are beautiful, Tori! Been so long since I was on here, was so keen to see how you were doing. That being said, your creativity leaves me in awe as always 🙂
